Dear Friends of Bahia Matanchen Animals:
The fur has settled on two immensely successful animal spay and neuter clinics here on the coast of Nayarit. In the past 2 weeks the staff of P.E.A.C.E., supported by a small army of local volunteers, sterilized 91 dogs and cats in Aticama and 92 in Santa Cruz, at their first clinic ever. That constitutes 183 animals than will not be part of the over population problem; in fact, based on US Humane Society statistics (dogs average 2 litters of 8 pups each per year, cats 3 litters of 5 kittens) approximately 1,472 fewer animals will be born in Aticama and Santa Cruz in the next year! The clinics, which we contract with the amazing P.E.A.C.E. organization, www.peacemexico.org, get to the heart of the problem of abandoned, sick and abused animals. Sterilization is the humane solution to unwanted births therefore increasing the behavior, quality of life and health for all animals.
Our wonderful volunteers were part of this solution, you all worked hard to make our communities safe and humane for all living creatures. Working side by side with our neighbors for a common good forges a special friendship among us (credit that quote to Amaranth after a 10 hr. clinic which treated 28 animals) and there is no better feeling than experiencing the gratitude of an animal you have cared for and helped to a better life. We are all the better for participating in these remarkable clinics and you volunteers embody the quote "THOSE WHO CAN, DO. THOSE WHO CAN DO MORE, VOLUNTEER." MIL GRACIAS TO THE FOLLOWING (If we have unintentionally left anyone out please excuse us!):
Marta & Daniel (of Capulin Coffee) for housing clinic staff for 2 weeks, with only an hour's notice! Also, they immediately offered their Aticama store as a clinic site when it appeared the Ejido Hall was not available and of course, Capulin Coffee fueled the clinics daily.
Dr. Bill Rogers for expertly examining every animal that entered the clinics.
Dr. Hector, Jalcocotan Veterinarian, for operating, for bringing truck loads of animals and for supervising his El Llano high school students who helped at the Santa Cruz Clinic.
Rose Patron for coordinating the Santa Cruz Clinic.
Fay Corbell for acting as official photographer (3 photos attached and all photos property of Fay at www.fcphoto.ca, click on BMA Clinics, for more photos), logo designer, meals, after care and for loaning us tables from Neptuno Restaurant.
Luis Chacon Cardona and Eneas Patron for being superb floor managers.
Jeannie Chapman for working after care at every clinic and doing anything else needing doing.
Ken & Sheila, Aticama B&B for housing vet staff and breakfast, and El Encanto (Jim Vitale) for housing vets.
